Samsung SCH-i730 offers the answer. It's the ultimate business-class device for mobile professionals, plus it has a few groundbreaking entertainment features. A full color display slides down to reveal an integrated QWERTY keypad, while integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and EV-DO wireless broadband keep you on the cutting edge of connectivity. Powered by the Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC Phone 2nd Edition operating system and with support for corporate e-mail accounts, this device is designed for maximum efficiency, wherever you are. It's an open and shut case: the i730 is the ultimate mobile office. Take a closer look at the i730's functions.

The i730 follows the standard form factor of the latest Pocket PC devices, with one major addition: a sliding QWERTY keyboard is hidden below the screen. A generous, 240 x 320 full-color touch-screen display dominates the face of the unit. Just below the display is a five-way selection button that allows you to navigate and control the Windows Mobile interface. Meanwhile, shortcut buttons offer quick access to your Outlook calendar, contacts, messaging, Internet Explorer, and more. Alternatively, the device can be directly controlled with an included stylus that slides out of the rear of the i730's case.

Under the hood, the i730 sports a 520 MHz Intel Bulverde CPU with 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of embedded flash memory storage. The unit's SD IO memory slot supports additional flash-based memory so you can expand available storage. The Windows Mobile operating system is completely touch-screen-enabled and features advanced handwriting recognition that is compatible with all of the device's applications. There's a standard stereo 2.5mm headset jack, and USB data and charging is handled by the i730's docking ports on the bottom of the device. To kick the i730's audio features up a notch, Samsung has also built a pair of 3D stereo speakers into the unit's case.

Nokia 9300 Smartphone

The 9300 looks like a typical Nokia candybar form-factor phone with a 128 x 128 screen and the typical dial-pad and navigation button. Flip the cover, though, and you're presented with a gorgeous 640 x 200 widescreen display and a full QWERTY keyboard. Both displays support 65,000 colors. A row of shortcut buttons arrayed above the keyboard makes it easy to quickly navigate to the device's phone, messaging, web, contacts, documents, and calendar functions. A small thumb-stick allows you to navigate through the 9300's menu system. And when you're browsing the web and using other applications it functions as a mouse pointer. A hot-swappable MMC memory card slot is provided, as is the Nokia "Pop-Port" interface for connecting wired headsets and the included desktop charging/synchronization cradle. The device ships with 80 MB of internal memory.

The Nokia 9300 smartphone features sophisticated design to enhance your work style while complementing your personal style. Stay organized, in touch and connected. The 9300's address book is only limited by the amount of available memory, and it can store multiple phone numbers, as well as physical and email addresses. Meanwhile, the 9300's built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Polyphonic ringtones are included, and you can use your favorite music or recorded voices as ringtones. Meanwhile, more ringtones can be downloaded from Cingular's MEdia wireless web service. Picture IDs let you assign specific ringtones to particular callers. Plus, the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible.

The Internet is easy with the 9300. It supports the GPRS data protocol, as well as the new, high-speed EDGE wireless data service. When used with a Cingular Wireless Internet Express data plan and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. There's also a built-in web browser for MEdia downloads and mobile web browsing. Cingular's MEdia service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Motorola PEBL

Motorola's PEBL U6 is the second model in Motorola's high-end "four-letter word" line, following the super popular RAZR V3. The PEBL takes some of the same materials and technologies used in the RAZR and packages them into a completely different kind of clamshell handset. While the RAZR is all about thin, sharp angles, the PEBL is more about design, making use of soft curves and smooth lines throughout.

The graphite black finish on the smooth, rounded exterior of the PEBL U6 manages to very glossy while still having a visual texture to it. The effect is very cool in person, but the downside is that the phone is an absolute magnet for finger prints. But that's just the cost of high fashion, isn't it?

The PEBL's biggest claim to fame is perhaps not its shape and look, but its unique opening mechanism. A series of custom hinges, a dampening device, and some magnets allow the PEBL U6 to be opened up one-handed in a very smooth, elegant manner. When holding the device, you simply use your thumb to pull the top cover towards the bottom of the device a bit, which releases the magnetic latch that keeps the spring-loaded opening mechanism at bay. At that point you simply move your thumb out of the way and let the spring do its job. The motion is smooth and slow enough not to cause the device to become unbalanced.

Once open, the PEBL's unusual keypad is ready for use. The directional controller and its center select button are very typical of mobile phones, but the rest of the keypad builds on some of the design elements we saw in the RAZR's keypad. The PEBL's keypad and softkeys are completely flat. The actual buttons are hidden behind a single sheet of metal that has a bit of give to it, allowing finger pressure to make its way to the switches underneath. Thin strips of translucent material let light filter in from behind, just as they do on the RAZR's keypad. The net result is a very distinct-looking keypad that probably sacrifices a bit too much in the name of fashion. Individual keys are simply much easier to find and press, even if they don't look nearly as sharp.

Motorola RAZR V3c Pink Phone

The wildly popular Motorola RAZR V3 in someone's hand before. Now Verizon has their own version of the RAZR, the RAZR V3c. The sexy design is here, as is the all-metal construction. This time, though, the phone is more powerful than ever, boasting support for Verizon's exclusive V Cast mobile content service, which is powered by EV-DO high-speed data technology. The V3c also features a 1.3 megapixel camera, upping the ante in the picture-taking department. Verizon is now offering the RAZR V3c in a stunning pink color. That's right, pink! It's time to live a little. the RAZR V3c is just slightly thicker than the original RAZR. The RAZR V3c's design takes the standard clamshell form factor to the next level with an impressive, fully-anodized aluminum construction.

A large 176 x 220 color display with 65,000 colors dominates the inside of the top cover. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary 96 x 80 full-color display that can display caller ID pictures, time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The 1.3 megapixel camera lens is housed above this display. Up/down buttons are placed on the left side for volume control. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad, which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy. A charging port and USB data cable port is placed on the bottom of the phone. The RAZR V3c also features 30 MB of embedded memory for storing pictures, videos and downloaded V Cast content.

Note that the phone does not have a 2.5mm headset jack. The RAZR V3c's 1.3 megapixel camera bridges the gap between phones and quality digital cameras. The camera is also designed to capture video, and there are night and self-timer functions. Embedded animated screensavers and full screen wallpapers are built-in so you can set up the RAZR V3c to suit your tastes. The RAZR V3c supports V Cast 3D games, as well as other 2D-based games, which are available from Verizon's Get It Now service.
